Drawing inspiration from the African and Indigenous cultures, Ancestry is a confrontation to the historical wounds inflected by colonization. The work operates on two levels: it is a recognition of the lingering systemic echoes that shape our reality, and simultaneously a celebration of the cultural legacies that survived them. The concerto acts as a bridge between past and future. Gonçalves explores the weight of history, moving through moments of tension and instrospection.
